This delightful miniature bird wood sculpture is 1:2 (half full size).  Philip is a skilled miniaturist and is an Associate member of the Royal Society of Miniature Sculptors and the Hilliard Society of Miniaturists.  He has beautifully portrayed this handsome bird, a colourful diving duck, in a typical upright pose for the species.  The detailed carving and intricate painting in this miniature sculpture is quite outstanding!

Red-Breasted Merganser- This diving duck belongs to the sawbill family, so called because of their long, serrated bills, used for catching fish.  the male has a dark head with green sheen, a white neck band and rusty breast, a black back and white underparts.  At home on both fresh and sea water, red-breasted mergansers are most commonly seen around UK's coastline in winter.
