'Fields with Hilltop Wood'- Landscape Painting

The artist painted this beautiful landscape painting on the spot, plein air, in the early evening sun.  The fields were being ploughed as Bruce painted the gentle sunlight on the fields. He found it to be a lovely place to be.  He needed to concentrate on the subject mattter and "zoom in", through making his drawings.  The scene was some distance away, so only part of a much bigger view, so he had to contemplate on the colours and tones together.  Nothing was very near, so this painting is all about colours of distance.
