This exquisite miniature bird wood sculpture is 1:2 (half full size).  Philip is a skilled miniaturist and is a member of the Hilliard Society of Miniaturists and an Associate member of the Royal Society of Miniature Sculptors.  He enjoys portraying birds in typical poses for the species, and depicts their splendid plumage in his detailed carving and skilful painting.

Red-Breasted Merganser- This diving duck belongs to the sawbill family, so called because of their long, serrated bills.  The male has a dark head with green sheen, a white neck band and rusty breast, a black back and white underparts.  At home on both fresh and sea water, red-breasted mergansers are most commonly seen around UK's coastline in winter.
